Inaugural Concert for the Friends of the Shell Grotto 5 July 2008
The inaugural benefit concert was a huge success for the Friends of the Shell Grotto (FOSG). Entertainment was provided by World Tree Music, led by FOSG trustee Gretchen Cornwall, to an appreciative crowd!
Grotto historian Mick Twyman was in the audience along with Nick Dermott, Conservation Architect at Thanet District Council, and Mandy Wilkins, FOSG Secretary. Shell Grotto volunteers Dave Collard and Claire Blackwell were also in attendance.
The musical event took place at the Hilderstone's Sarah Thorne Memorial Theatre in Broadstairs. The FOSG would like to acknowledge the generous support of Michael Wheatley-Ward and David Rankin at the theatre. "They went out of their way to provide an enjoyable evening," says Gretchen, "and continue to show their support for the new Trust, which we are most grateful for."
Sarah Vickery, owner of the Shell Grotto, spoke on the importance of the FOSG and signed up new members. "Since the inception of FOSG, we have raised £1495 and are 55 members strong!" says Gretchen. "So we are well on our way to achieving our initial goal of raising the £9,000 match-funding required to release English Heritage's grant offer."
