Due to extraordinary demand, and our first two Vintage Film Nights selling out before we’d even written a press release, here come some more dates!
Both evenings will once again feature Nick Dermott as our compere, with an interval bar, and ice creams and popcorn available from our usherettes.
Thursday 16 September
(programme first screened in May)
This evening of publicity films includes: Magical Margate, dating from around 1919, and very rare; The Canterbury Tour, c1923; The Belle of Kent from 1958, promoting Margate and featuring cameos from Petula Clark and Dickie Valentine; and All Go Margate, from 1970, with Michael Aspel boasting about the town’s 2 million annual visitors.
Thursday 14 October
(programme first screened in June)
Our second programme includes: A Date With the Sun, a 1960s Margate film narrated by the great Kenneth Horne (what brought him trolling in here?); At the Sign of the Ram and the Gate, a fictional tale of a Fleet Street journo sent to convalesce in Ramsgate in 1957; This is Broadstairs from c1970; and 70s film Around Thanet.
All proceeds from Seaside Delights will go to the Friends of the Shell Grotto. Tickets are free to Friends of the Shell Grotto, £4.50 for non-members. Pre-booking is essential on 01843 220008. Or if you would like to buy tickets click on the Add to Cart Button below.
