Sunday 31 October 2010

Once again the Grotto was filled with hobgoblins and witches….(Sarah and trustees Gretchen and Mandy!) to bring delight and Halloween fun to visitors and Friends.

Tony Cooper, storyteller par excellence, decamped to the lantern lit altar room of the Grotto where he entranced his audience with such spine chilling tales as Fearless Mary of Mill Hill; a ghost tale from the Victorian age, NellCook, a ghastly tale of Canterbury Cathedral and The Albino and theMermaid; an explanation of the Shell Grotto.

Meanwhile Jan Cooper was working her own special magic with her Halloween Craft Workshop…where children (and some parents!) concocted spooky masks which included skeletons, cats and pumpkin faced elves and turned paper towels, polystyrene cups and barbeque sticks into creaking ghost puppets, much to the amazement of the participants.

There were refreshments and much socialising and a general feeling of enjoyment….a lovely day!

Many thanks to all those children who dressed to distress. And of course very special thanks to Tony and Jan Cooper for bringing their unique talents to the Grotto.

Report by Mandy Wilkins, Trustee.
